TheDeltaBlues’s Infinite Playlist

Here Are the Albums on Steady Rotation in the Office.

Please note that in no way are we making the claim that these are the “best” blues albums, or must-haves, etc.  We seem to get a lot of requests from fans asking our advice on what blues album to buy, what we recommend, and so on.  Well, to us, blues, like any other genre of music, involves tastes.  Some are more inclined to enjoy some rocking Texas blues, while others enjoy the finger-picking sounds of Appalachia.

Therefore, rather than try to offer suggestions, we figured we’d just go ahead and post the albums we have in steady rotation playing at the office.  These are the albums we hear “shuffled” songs from on a daily basis:

B.B. King - Paying The Cost to Be The Boss [Check it out]

Ben Prestage – Live At Pineapple Willy’s [Check it out]

Son House - The Original Delta Blues [Check it out]

T-Bone Walker – Stormy Monday Blues [Check it out]

T-Model Ford – Pee Wee Get My Gun [Check it out]

Taj Mahal – Giant Step [Check it out]

Various Artists – Classic Appalachian Blues [Check it out]

Various Artists – Prime Chops/Blind Pig Sampler [Check it out]

Just a note, before all the hate messages come in.  No, this is not our whole collection.  No, we did not include or exclude any artist for any reason.  This is just what we are listening to right now.  Yes, we like other music.  Yes, we know some of you will think some of this is “not blues”.  No, we won’t edit the list to your liking.  I think you get the idea….

Enjoy!

  • Great list! Nice mix of old, new and wildcards. Just saw Rev. Peyton in Clarksdale the other day.

If I may be so bold as to throw my personal addendum to that list:
    Derek Trucks – Already Free
Muddy Waters – Hard Again (I swore I wasn’t gonna judge… but no muddy on your list!? 10 minute time out!)
Prof. Longhair – Big Easy Strut
    Buddy Guy – Sweet Tea
    George Thorogood – Dirty Dozen
Jimmy “Duck” Holmes – Ain’t It Lonesome
B.B. King / Eric Clapton – Ridin’ With the King
    Robert Cray – Shame + A Sin
Allman Brothers – At Fillmore East
Peppermint Harris – Texas On My Mind
And just as a mildly controversial choice…
Gov’t Mule – The Deepest End

  • WHAT?

Muddy should be on the list. We have Electric Mud in the playlist loop. Must have missed it. I will have to verify and update the list. I also have Riding with the King in the collection, just not in the playlist loop. ;( Great additions though!

    Thanks!

  • Great list, and I hope you get everyone pissed! Where’s Charley Patton? Damn you! I hope you get tons of hate mail from everyone with their favorite Delta blues to contribute to the world’s best Delta Blues site!

  • Rick,

Nice to see you posting again!

Truth is, I do have a couple Charley Patton songs in the rotation, but no complete albums, so I didn’t put it on the list. :) I’ve gotten a few messages about the list, but a lot of people find it to be a good list!

Thanks for the compliments on the site – I truly appreciate it!

Hope to talk to you soon…

  • it was very interesting to read.
I want to quote your post in my blog. May I?

  • Knock yourself out! Quote away!
